Minister Confirms MoD Examining Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, as Staff Told to Refrain from Secret Talk in Vehicles.

An defense minister has confirmed that the MoD is currently examining the potential security risks associated with Chinese-made vehicles, and personnel have been instructed to avoid discussing classified matters in any vehicles.

Security Advice for Defence Personnel

During a recently aired appearance on LBC, a defence minister addressed claims that MoD staff have been instructed not to discuss classified material while riding in Chinese cars.

He stated that the MoD is “examining” cars from China within its vehicle pools, however emphasised that security is a issue in all modern cars.

Our department has a collection of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles account for a tiny fraction.
However whether you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our staff is to avoid connecting MoD technology into their car, not to have discussions at a classified level in any kind of car, because of the growing threats of eavesdropping that are present in every single automobile, to only have those confidential conversations in secure locations. That’s a wise and sensible thing for anyone concerned about safety.

After it was suggested that it would be wise for the ministry to stop using all Chinese vehicles, Pollard responded: That is exactly what we are looking into at the moment.”

Wider Defence Background

This revelation comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have alerted the UK to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made buses, which could allow the Chinese government to switch off buses and bring disruption to public transit.

Additionally, a Russian intelligence vessel was reportedly shining lasers at RAF pilots, labeled a “extremely risky” action by government representatives.

The wider defence environment underscores the importance of robust measures and caution in all areas of official activities, from transport usage to communication practices.
